Jean Marc Van Loo is a self-taught bassist who began his musical journey in 1988. From 1995 to 1996, he studied at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, refining his playing technique and deepening his understanding of music theory. In the early 2000s, he also explored the double bass and took jazz lessons with Berklee graduates in his hometown.
Throughout his career, Jean Marc has performed in various musical settings, from substituting for bands to leading as both bassist and vocalist. His fascination with sound naturally extended to studio work, where he further developed his expertise in tone and recording.
Since 1999, Jean Marc has also been a dedicated luthier, founding his own workshop Van Loo Luthier in 2008. Over the years, he has repaired and set up more than 2,000 instruments and hand-built over 90 custom guitars, basses, harps, and lyres.
In 2020, he launched his YouTube channel “The Wetter Bass”, where he reviews pedals, effects, and bass-related gear. Through his videos, Jean Marc continues to share his passion for music, craftsmanship, and great sound with players around the world.
